Accepting your Mental health diagnosis

Sometimes we are hesitant to accept the fact that we now have this “label” that many think of in a negative way, but it doesn’t have to be that way. When we accept it, that is when we can begin healing. Much like experiencing grief, it is not until you fully accept that the person has passed, and is no longer here, we cannot move on.

You may be new to learning about mental health, but like every organ in our body, our brain is very complex. Our brain creates something called neurotransmitters, such as Dopamine, Serotonin, and GABA. When there is a lack of or an abundance of these neurotransmitters diseases like Depression, Schizophrenia and Anxiety appear. So just like someone may lack insulin in their pancreas and may need medication, our brain may need some as well.

So never feel ashamed of your diagnosis. I have Depression. I have Anxiety. I have Schizophrenia. Your diagnosis doesn’t define who you are, but coming out and being confident in it may help someone afraid to look for help.
